A Highly Decorative 19th Century Hsun-ok (Offering Bowl), Burmese Circa 1920

About the Item

A highly decorative and visually striking antique Burmese (Myanmar) food container, constructed by hand using turned wood & bamboo, then hand carved and decorated overall in a striking vermillion red lacquer. These vessels were used to carry food offerings to temple monks. Constructed in three parts, the stepped circular base rises to an integral bowl-shaped body with a recessed food compartment and a removable dish, the conforming domed cover terminating to a spire shaped finial.
