About the Item

A fantastic and rare glass bowl made and signed by Erik Höglund, the master of architectural glass, a part of Swedish Modern Abstract Art Glass from the 1960s. This bowl is so typical of his design, bold yet also simple with a beautiful and shape, with the most amazing vibrant blue color. Full of air bubbles a very special technique he often used. It is in a very good condition. The price includes free shipping. It is 18cm in diameter and 9cm high. (7.08" & 3.54") Kosta Boda Glasbruk Founded in 1742 had an early production focusing on consisted of window glass, chandeliers and drinking glasses. From the 1840s, the factory was at the forefront of new trends and technical developments, producing pressed glass, and in the 1880s setting up a new glass-cutting workshop. The factory is situated in what is known as the Chrystal Kingdom region in Sweden. In 1903, the company merged with the Reijmyre glasbruk (glassworks) but both retained their own names and Kosta went on to maintain its reputation as one of the leading Swedish manufacturers with a range of fine art glass and tableware by distinguished designers such as Vicke Lindstrand, artistic director from 1950-1973. With Vicke Lindstrand in charge of the modern art glass production, the company became one of the leading companies when it comes to modern art glass and interior design object in the 1960s and 70s following Vicke Lindström’s legacy in connection to Scandinavian design, often focusing on vases as well as other modern glass objects. Lots of their goods is today still seen as modern and retro classics. The company employed some of the leading designers of its time such as Mona Morales, Göran Wärff, Erik Höglund and Bertil Wallien.

    A Set of 5 Art Glass Pieces designed in 1950s by Erik Hoglund (1932-1998) for the iconic Swedish glass factory Boda. Measures: Rectangular pieces 11 cm wide x 9 cm deep x 3 cm high, circular pieces 7 cm diameter x 3 cm high. Erik Höglund was studied at Konstfack in Stockholm, first decorative painting with Fritz Sjöström, then sculpture with Robert Nilsson and finally graphic design 1951-1952 with Harald Sallberg. Recruited by Erik Rosén, he was an associate designer at the Boda glassworks from 1953 to 1973 and, during this period, transformed Swedish art glass production by introducing new ideas about the appearance of glass products.. While in Boda, he also worked with pine, wrought iron and furniture. Later he also collaborated with other glassworks, such as Pukeberg, Lindshammar and Studioglas Strömbergshyttan. In 1968 he founded the design company Backström & Höglund Design AB together with the glass artist Monica Backström, with the mission to design furniture, household utensils and utensils for the public environment.
