Joe Hogan Pod on beechwood Manufactured by Joe Hogan Produced in exclusive for Side Gallery Ireland, 2020 Beechwood Joe Hogan is a master basket-maker based in Loch Na Fooey, a glacial lake situated in the west of Ireland. He has been practicing basketry since 1978, and in that time has earned a reputation for making strong, durable baskets of the highest quality. The colors in these award-winning baskets are those of the natural willows which he grows at Loch na Fooey. Joe’s work is inspired by the richness of materials the earth provides. He grows his own willow and harvests other naturally occurring materials such as wood, bark, larch, birch, bog myrtle twigs, willow twigs and catkins that he incorporates in his work. Joe trained with numerous Irish basket makers, learning techniques rarely seen in the modern day he is regarded as one of Ireland’s master craftsmen and has gained a worldwide reputation for his work. Over the past fifteen years Joe has become increasingly interested in artistic baskets...
