About the Item
An antique Chinese Qing Dynasty period dark red lacquer wooden wedding chest from the 19th century with unusual shape, hand-painted floral décor and brass hardware. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty in the 19th century, this decorative box which was in fact a wedding chest features an unusual shape. A domed lid opens up thanks to a brass lock with ornate pierced motifs, to reveal a small lacquered interior. The tapering body features a cartouche in the façade's center, adorned with a bamboo tree and a bird perched on a branch, the ensemble being surrounded by delicate flowers. The sides are fitted with C-scroll handles allowing the chest to be moved more easily, while the front and back present small ring pulls. Boasting a nicely weathered patina, this Chinese Qing Dynasty period wedding chest from the 19th century will make for a lovely decorative addition to any home, perhaps placed in a bedroom or living room.
