Hand Carved Apple Tea Caddy in Hardwood with Lined Interior, 19th Century
About the Item
This is a hand made tea caddy Lidded box in the shape of an Apple, made from hardwood and dating to the 19th century.
The Apple shaped box has a hinged lid with a short hand carved stalk. The lid has a brass hinge and lock (sorry no key). The interior is metal foil lined. This piece is made of polished hardwood, possibly fruitwood, with a lovely grain and patina.
Apple and other fruit shaped tea caddies go back to the English 18th Century George 111rd period.

The chess set is complete with 32 handmade and turned hardwood pieces, ( probably made of boxwood) all in the Regency shape or French Regence style. This Regence style are quite distinctive with the taller pieces and distinctive knights when compared to other designs and have a good "feel" when playing with. The box is handmade of pine with a sliding lid of good colour.
