Vintage Alfred Dunhill Paris Coromandel Exotic Wood Game Box

About the Item

A fabulous vintage gaming box by London's esteemed luxury goods maker Dunhill. Signed Alfred Dunhill Paris fab. Anglaise, this exotic wood game box is fitted with a removable tray for four decks of cards with a bottom compartment for scoring accessories. The exterior is of fine figured Coromandel wood inlaid with contrasting rectangular Art Deco style design. The interior, including the tray, of beautiful satinwood with four complete decks of B. P. Grimaud, Paris Bridge-Linen playing cards and a set of Bridge scoring cards. Extra cards and Joker cards included. Coromandel wood is an exceptionally beautiful and durable hardwood, considered among the most prized in the world. Satinwood is a lovely blond wood used in fine cabinetmaking for a contrasting effect, as is the case here- the dramatic exterior is a prelude to a glowing, bright interior. A superb Dunhill piece. Very good condition, playing cards with some wear. Sighed on the base.

    Fine and unusual signed Edward F. Caldwell & Co. Neoclassical style silvered bronze box depicting a pair of winged angels playing music at an altar. One angel plays a lyre and the other an aulos or double flute, flanked by impressive torcheres bearing pine cones and surrounded by a wide border of olive leaves and olive fruit. The interior of cover decorated with a highly artistic pair of Bacchus masks flanking a grapevine garland, signed on upper right corner E. F. Caldwell & Co. Inc New York. The sides of the box further decorated with Bacchus masks and grapevine garlands of very fine quality Caldwell is known for. Substantial size- excellent as a jewelry box or tabletop decorative box. Very good condition commensurate with age. Base is lined with black velvet, very slight bend to upper left corner, silvered finish in good condition. Edward F.     Enameled compact box by Louis Kuppenheim for Alfred Dunhill. An extraordinary round compact box, created in the city of Pforzheim Germany during the art deco period, back in the late 1920's. This superb elegant round box is closely to mint condition, is very rare and was carefully crafted at the Louis Kuppenheim workshop in solid .935/.999 silver, with gilt interiors and a mirror. Exceptional workmanship as you expect of the workshop of Louis Kuppenheim, with remarkable enameled patterns of peacocks feathers on both faces. Embellished around with white enamel frames and the borders with incised and carved panels with flowers. Engraved: Monogram GG for Gussie Gerstenzang. Weight: 143.40 Grams, (91.92 Dwt). Measurements: Diameter of 80 mm by 12.5 mm (3.14 x 0.49 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark and signed, "MADE IN AUSTRIA 08233 STERLING SILVER .935 ASC 935". For Alfred Dunhill. Louis Kuppenheim Company The company was grounded in 1854 by Louis Kuppenheim (1824-1889) and Heinrich Witzenmann, specialized in silver and gold and enameled artefacts. On the World Exhibition in 1900 the firm received a gold medal for a letter opener. In that same year the company opened a branch in the Rue Richelieu 67 in Paris. In these years some designs by Hans Christiansen were executed, amongst them very delicately enameled silver cigarette cases. The enamels on the several silver and gold pieces was of very high standard, and sometimes even gems like rubies were applied.
