Antique ASPREY, 166 Bond Street, London, Jewellery Box Cufflinks Display Case

About the Item

Asprey, London Bond Street cufflinks jewellery display box. Dimensions: Length x width x depth: 9.3 x 3.5 x 1.7 cm Weight: 22 grams Condition: Box is pre - owned, with minor signs of usage, good and pleasant condition overall. Founded in 1781 as a silk printing business by William Asprey, the company swiftly transitioned into luxury goods retailing under William and his son Charles (I). In 1841, a partnership with Francis Kennedy led to expansion into Bond Street, London. The Great Exhibition of 1851 garnered Asprey acclaim for their dressing cases, solidifying their reputation for luxury. Subsequent acquisitions and expansions, including absorbing the firm of Edwards and purchasing the Alfred Club in 1861, propelled Asprey's growth. Queen Victoria's endorsement in 1862 elevated their status, leading to a Royal Warrant. Name changes ensued over the years, culminating in the establishment of Asprey & Co. in 1900 after consolidating with Houghton & Gunn in 1906. Despite formal name changes occurring later, Asprey products bearing earlier signatures reflect the company's enduring legacy.
