Georgian Bombe Shaped Mahogany Tea Caddy

About the Item

An Attractive George III Period, 18th Century Mahogany, English Tea Caddy Of Bombe Shaped Form Having Original Brass Swan Neck Handle, To Hinged Lid Enclosing Divisions And Chequered Strung Decoration Throughout, Raised On Original Ogee Bracket Feet. Tea was an extremely valuable commodity throughout the course of the 18th and 19th centuries. Therefore of course something was required to store the precious tea leaves in and ensure that they remain in their peak condition for as long as possible, whilst at the same time offering a little security to stop any wandering hands. The mahogany used to construct this tea caddy is good, rich timber and retains an attractive colour and patina. It is also nice to note that it comes with original brass handle and is still standing on its original ogee feet. It is also particularly unusual in terms of the shape, which is referred to as “bombe” and is defined by the outward bulging design. This tea caddy comes with a fully functioning lock and key, plus has been cleaned and traditionally waxed polished by our highly skilled and well trained specialist antique furniture restorers in our workshops before being offered for sale. It also remains in good condition and has clearly been well loved throughout the years of its life. Circa 1760. Height 6in. Width 10in. Depth 5.75in.
