Georgian Mahogany Oblong Tea Caddy

About the Item

A Good Quality 18th Century Georgian Mahogany Oblong Tea Caddy Having Well Figured & Inlaid  Hinged Lid Enclosing Original Paper Lined Interior With Original Solid Lead Lid (Tea was a very precious commodity in the 18th century and tea caddies were used to both preserve the tea leaves, and also to lock it away and protect it from any wandering hands. This is an attractive example and an elegant shape. It is also nice to see it had retained its original lead interior lid which was designed just to rest on top of the tea leaves and keep them compressed and fresh. It is also worth noting that this piece comes with fully functioning key.)
