Pair of Important Gilt Bronze Candelabra with Cut Crystal Arms, 1780s

About the Item

A pair of important and highly unusual candelabra from the 1780s. The bases are made of gilt bronze with inserted, glasscovered paintings on ivory. The paintings are by Piat-Joseph Sauvage (1744-1818). They are depicting different classical figures and designs, all of the highest quality. The bronzes are as everything on these candelabra of the highest quality. The gilding has a deep colour and the metalwork is thick with wonderful design. The upper parts are made of cut crystal glass. All different parts are numbered and have their specific place. Probably made by William Parker, England.
