Pair Teal Green Art Glass Candlesticks 1980s

About the Item

A pair of wildly romantic 1980s candlesticks in the Empoli style - bold and bountiful. Very pretty Teal coloured glass balloon stems with spiral pattern, finished with a clear glass candle holder and wide dish for wax. A clear glass foot or pediment makes them stable for their height. I love the colour and size of these two. They’re large but not overly so, and the colour is bold but not strident. They’re less of an elegant 'fine dining' candlestick, more a fun statement of abundance. Perfect for a festive Spring/Summer table setting. The largest is 32 centimetres or 12.6 inches tall, the smaller 31 centimetres or 12.2 inches. They're of mismatched height because each has been individually mouth blown, without a template or mould. I’m tempted to say they come from Italy, but I think Spain is more probable. In Spain, decorative glass has a long tradition but takes a more utilitarian form, often with less refined craft than the art glass of Italy, but with more joy and practicality. I’d describe this as medium quality glass, with great decorative effect - there are surface ripples and folds, bubbles and other minor manufacturing flaws.
