Set of Four Large 19th Century Carved Marble Pricket Candlesticks

About the Item

This set of carved marble pricket candlesticks might have been used as altar sticks for a church but could easily also have been made for a private house that had marble details and devices so that these would accompany the interior. Made from white marble with hand-forged Iron prickets the set is rare for the number and that they have remained together. Showing much use and wear the set appears to be from the early 19th century and have a great surface and patina. These could be either French or Italian but it is difficult to tell without specific stylistic details.
