18th Century Quality Antique Oak Brass Face Longcase Clock by Benjamin Reeves

About the Item

18th century quality antique oak brass face longcase clock by Benjamin Reeves, Lamberhurst having a quality square brass dial with original hands, 30 hour bird cage movement striking on the hour and half hour, original weight and pendulum. The case is crafted from oak with turned columns to the hood, long door to the centre of the case standing on a shaped plinth base. A handsome example in lovely condition for its age boasting a nice age related patina and in good working order Benjamin Reeves is a recorded clockmaker working in Lamberhurst, Kent, circa 1740 until his death in 1790. He is also known to have worked on a church clock in Battle in 1774. H 198.5cm x W 47.5 x D 26cm Date 1760.

    This superb George I period antique longcase clock by Daniel Delander is cased in highly figured walnut veneer of lovely colour and patina. Standing on a double plinth there is a panelled base and moulded trunk door. The pull forward hood is flanked by quarter columns with brass capitals. The case retains the original caddy top surmounted by two finials. The square dial has an applied chapter ring with cherubin spandrels. The dial centre is finely matted with an engraved date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial. The original blued steel hands appear to be original and are finely wrought and pierced.
