Tower Clock, Phippard Jappened Long Case George II Period '1730-1760'

About the Item

Tower clock lacquered with gilded and polichromed chinoiserie on a green lacquer background. The tunk is painted with scenes of landscapes with pagodas surrounded by garden where there are domestics scenes of human figures renvive by beautiful birds; a rich triage eriche the lateral reserves. The mechanism tunk shows a pagoda shape decorated with landscapes and flowers, on the sides thick decoration of plants. The eight days motion made by Thomas Phippard, that hits the hours on a bell, has a brass quadrant with a silvered brass ring on which there are roman numbers for hours and Arabic numbers for minutes; in addition there is an elaborated brass center carved with leaves containing the vise with a small hand for seconds; magnificently made blued steel hands. The name of the maker and the place are engraved on a silvered plate placed above the opening in which there are the lunar dates. The brass vise, anriched with gilded and chiseled bronzes at the corners, opens up on the upper part giving space to a cobalt night sky on which sails a painted vessel.
