Allegorical French Empire Clock Referred to as "The Library Clock"

About the Item

A rare model of a French Empire clock in gilded bronze called The Library, featuring a boy and a girl dressed in classical attire diligently studying in a library, both are sitting on a stool in front of a clock which is integrated into a column which also serves as a bookshelf. The oval clock base is decorated with garlands. The white enamel dial has Roman numerals; the silk string movement rings the hours and halves on a bell. A similar example is in the Palazzo Reale De el Pardo in Madrid, (Ref. French Bronze Clocks by Elke Niehuser, page 184). The clock comes with its original glass case and base.
