Gilt Bronze Figural Mantle Clock

About the Item

Marks to movement: ELR, 1903, R73 to underside of lid. Origin: French Date: circa 1880 Dimension: 19 x 22 x 8 inches Notes: Zacharie Joseph Raingo (1775-1847) The Raingo Frères bronzier and clockmaker company was founded by Zacharie Joseph Raingo in 1813. The company is famously known for the quality of their ormolu. In 1824, Raingo was named the "Watchmaker-Mécanicien" by the Duke of Orleans and "Watchmaker-Mécanicien du Garde-Meuble de la Couronne" (Supplier of the King of France). King George IV of England was among the important clients of Raingo Frères bronzier and clockmaker company where he bought a planetarium-clock of Raingo in 1824. In 1860, Raingo Frères had furnished bronzes, garniture (decorations) and table pieces for the apartments of Emperor Napoleon III and his wife, the Empress Eugenia, examples of which are now in the collection of The Louvre. In 1834, the Raingo Frères company received an honorable mention in an exhibition in Paris. Some of their works can be seen in different museums such as Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, Museo Poldi Pezzoli in Milan and in Palacio Real de Madrid.
