Rare 18th Century Louis XVI Ormolu and White Marble Inclined Plane Mantel Clock
About the Item
An extremely rare Louis XVI mantel clock 'a cremaillere', a movement driven by its own weight, where the moving drum barrel is running down an inclined white marble base (runs for about three days), mounted with ormolu beading, on toupie feet. The white enamel dial with Arabic numerals. The Timepiece movement with verge and balance wheel escapement, integral lead counter-balance weight. Fantastic technical work from the 18th century.

- Condition:Repaired: There is one older restoration to the edge of the marble. Wear consistent with age and use. The movement has been cleaned and revised by our professional clock restorer. The movement is in perfect working order. There are some hairlines cracks to some edges of the marble, which is solid throughout (see photos).
