About the Item

An imposing Regency rosewood domed bracket clock, maker Richard Widenham, London, circa 1830. The rosewood veneered case with decorative beading to front, pierced brass side frets and a decorative pierced rear door, with brass side handles and raised on brass ball feet. The 9 inch circular silvered dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial, signed Widenham London, with decorative moonphase hands. The brass twin fusee movement signed Widenham, London, sounding the hours and half hours on a bell. Richard Widenham began working in London at East Street, Red Lion Square circa 1820 before moving to Lombard Street, London where he worked from 1824 until 1832. He advertised as 'Watchmaker to the Hon. Board of Admiralty'.
