19th Century, French, Patinated Bronze Hunting Dog and Duck Inkwell

About the Item

Decorate a man's desk or office with this antique dog and bird inkwell. Created in France circa 1870 and attributed to Jules Moiniez, the sculpture composition depicts a setter head holding a duck in his mouth; the hunting dog face lifts up to reveal the original enamel ink holder, while the wings of the bird will hold pens. The sculpture is in excellent condition, with fine and exquisite details, and adorns a rich patinated bronze finish. A wonderful addition for a dog lover, or any ranch or hunting lodge! Jules Moigniez (1835-1894) was a French animalier (animal) sculptor who was active during the 19th century. His output was primarily cast in bronze and he frequently exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon. He was best known for his bronzes depicting birds, although his skill and versatility enabled him to produce quality horse sculptures (primarily racehorses), dog sculptures and hunting scenes. His bird sculptures were among the finest ever created during his time. Measures: 12" W x 7.5" D x 4" H.
