Brutalist Steel Sculpture in Oil and Waxed Finish by Jan Van Deckter

This stunning Brutalist Steel Sculpture in Oil and Waxed Finish is by the artist Jan Van Deckter and originates from the United States, Circa 1970. Features a towering composition in visceral torch cut steel, revealing dynamic and captivating shapes with cut edges full of texture and detail, contrasting beautifully with smooth edges original to the found material of the sculpture. Steel rods are thoughtfully welded to support additional floating elements of the piece, providing attractive details and overlapping shapes when viewed from a variety of angles, all arising from a square steel base providing excellent stability and presence. This sculpture is signed "Jan van Deckter" on the base. Deckter worked as a painter, sculptor, master engraver, and author who served as professor at NYU and the Ar Craftsman's League with works in the Cleveland Museum of Art, Phillips Art collection, and numerous private collections. This rare and dynamic Brutalist sculpture will style beautifully in a wide array of interiors and settings, from Mid-Century Modernist to Contemporary and Minimal Spaces.
