Fratelli Mannelli Rhino Family of Four

About the Item

A set of four Fratelli Mannelli animals, graduated in size to form a sweet family. We think they're Rhinos but they may be Buffalo. Either way, they're too cute (and too cool) for school. We love the classic Brutalist Carlo Scarpa vibes - total simplicity, honest materiality, clever design. The largest is 14.5 cm long x 8.3 cm tall x 3 cm thick. They graduate down to the baby, a sweet 7 cm long x 4.3 cm tall x 2.8 cm thick. The original Frattelli Mannelli animals were just a few species but the variety grew over the years, so these are likely later than the 1960s originals. Likely 1970s. They're cut from Travertine limestone, so do have a rough surface, though it doesn't include actual chipping or losses. It's just the nature of raw Travertine to have a few cavities and fissures here and there. I've tried to illustrate their appearance as clearly as possible. Feel free to ask for more images if you have specific queries. The color tone of the images has been influenced by a nearby red brick wall, giving the animals a pink cast in some images. The plain putty/stone colors in the lighter photos is a most accurate representation of the color. Love, love, love but have priced to sell.

  • Fratelli Reguitti Valet Stand in the Style of Parisi 1960s Mahogany Beech
    By Ico & Luisa Parisi
    Located in Melbourne, AU
This Fratelli Reguitti X-form valet, in the style of Ico and Luisa Parisi, is in exceptionally good condition. It features a lovely, rich mahogany stained beech timber frame, brass hardware and rubber wheels. The whole unit is tight and solid, with fine surfaces and in excellent working condition. There are some signs of age of course. The shoe rails have lost their brass plating. Charmingly, a little remains as a hint of the previously flashy appearance. There are a few very minor dings and scuffs on the timber surfaces. There's a little wear to the finish on the shoulder ends of the hanger. A very minor bruise in the ridges of timber that run across the top of the stand, we carefully sanded the inside of the ridges to smooth away any uneven surface so that fabric will not catch. The pull-out tie and belt holders...

  • Totemic Head Sculpture Unsigned by Jencik, Melbourne, 1998
    By Paul Jencik
    Located in Melbourne, AU
Another wonderful marble sculpture with an intriguing provenance. Unsigned. Part of a series by Paul Jencik, circa 1998-2001. This ‘totemic head’ sculpture is carved from a single block of marble in a snowy white. It’s the remaining head from a much larger totemic sculpture, the base now lost. This figurative face can be interpreted in many ways. Jencik references human, animal and natural forms but never quite allows us to reach a conclusion about the origins of his creations. Jencik was a welder, boat builder and metal worker with a strong creative instinct but without the opportunity or artistic training that would afford his work any recognition. He created a large series of marble and timber sculptures...
