French 1920s Polychrome Papier-Mâché Rooster Sculpture Mounted on Metal Base

About the Item

A French papier mâché rooster sculpture from the early 20th century, mounted on a metal base. Known for its pride, this French national emblem sculpture born during the Roaring 1920s, made of papier mâché, features a lovely polychromy. The rooster's white plumage is nicely contrasted by the red color of his comb, wattle and caruncles, yellow of his beak and black of his eyes. His expression seems to indicate that he is on alert, checking the surroundings. His body presents nice details, particularly in his tail. Mounted on a rusty metal base, this French rooster sculpture circa 1920 will be a lovely decorative accent in any home, particularly in a kitchen or living room.
