North African Hunter on Horseback Surprised by a Caracal
Medium-brown and burnished bronze patinated sand-cast bronze Signed in naturalistic base "E. DELABRIERRE"
Item # 212OIX08Q
A beautifully sand-cast example of Delabrierre's very rarely available example of a North African Hunter riding his mount through across the desert terrain with his catch of the day, a small wild goat, riding over the haunches of the powerful horse. They are stopped in their tracks as the stallion rears back in fear at the appearance of a small Caracal wild cat hidden behind a crop of rock. The hunter does not appear terribly concerned by the appearance of the cat, which is likely more scared of the group. The scene is perfectly balanced while the hunter positions himself to ride out the turblent movements of his mount. Note the exquisite surface quality with a chased texture throughout the skin of both rider and mount.

Measurements: 19 5/8" H x 16" W x 6 1/2" D
Condition Report:
Original patina in good condition throughout; light handling wear to some raised elements, including the back of the crouched cat, edges of foliage on the ground, some overall discoloration and variation to the cove molding of the base. Rifle cast in two parts with a screw joint between the upper and lower elements - we have inserted an incredibly thin nylon washer between these to allow the joint to remain tight and in the correct orientation.

Moreau" Item # 012SKP14W A fine model of a rural young farmer resting against a rocky outcrop to sharpen his scythe, the base of which has been set in the hay collected in a pile beside the rock; the naturalistic base is signed along the back in his typical nearly cursive script "Math. Moreau". It is a complex model and a fine accomplishment for the foundry, the joints seamlessly flowing into one another without any obvious connections. The surface is chiseled with great care, resulting in fine detailing of the toes and fingers to include the wrinkles at each joint and texturing of the nails, crisp eyelids and flawless skin, gorgeous texturing of the garment...Category

The abstracted breasts of the figure bring to mind the mature Cubism of Ossip Zadkine, Jean Souverbie...Category
