19th Century French Casting Lost Wax Decorative Object
About the Item
A fine French bronze sculpture casting or "cire perdue"/lost wax estimated to date back to the 19th century. This interest mold depicts Centaurs and possibly Claudia.
Lost-wax casting is a complex process, this mold is a perfect example and an interesting subject matter.
In Greek mythology, Centaur is the father of the race of mythological beasts known as the centaurs or Ixionidae. The centaurs are half-man, half horse; having the torso of a man extending where the neck of a horse should be. They were said to be wild, savage, and lustful.
Claudia (Roman legend) Claudia was an ancient Roman Vestal Virgin and the daughter of Appius Claudius Pulcher. She intervened to save her father from attack by a group of plebeians.
This satirical mold is an interesting conversational piece and would look wonderful framed or cast into bronze sculpture.
Undeniably, this 19th Century French Casting Lost Wax Decorative Object would enhance any traditional setting. Best framed or presented on a stand.
