19th Century French Plaster Sculpture Chateau Castle Model

About the Item

Gorgeous model of a château, made in plâtre, in 1904. This architectural typology was developed in France, they are palaces or large country houses belonging to a nobleman or a gentleman with great purchasing power. Normally they are located on the outskirts of the city, standing out among the extensive land around them, or in a rural area. They have their origin in the Middle Ages but it is in the French classicist baroque, as well as in the neoclassical, when this typology is most developed, where the constructive order, cohesion and balance are its maxim. Among the most common characteristics, the asymmetric floor plan stands out, with broken slate roof lines in several places and with facades composed of forward and backward planes. This is because most châteaux are renovations or additions to a previous building. On the contrary, in the new-build châteaux, the approach is rigorously symmetrical. Symmetrical or not, these buildings are orderly and balanced. In this case, our construction consists of two floors and a third as a mezzanine. The facade has been structured with a succession of openings between pilasters, these are large so that as much light as possible enters, thus trying to take advantage of the daylight hours in this cold climate. It also has a corridor or gallery framed by a succession of columns, which is accessed through a staircase with two twin sections. On the left, from the rear, a spherical tower of medieval reminiscence appears, and on the right a classicist tower crowned with a spire. This type of roof is very typical French, trapezoidal in elevation and with a steep slope to channel water and snow. A type of dormer window is added, which corresponds to the mezzanine, which receives the name of mansard, named after François Mansart (1598 - 1666), a French architect, very close to Louis XIII, introducer of classicism in Baroque architecture in France. In the lower right part it has a cartouche that reads "1904". Architectural models, like most scale representations, are used as a communication and study tool, since the architect, as well as the owner-promoters, can thus get a true idea of ??the building. The usefulness of this tool lies in the fact that, thanks to the scale and volumetric visual impact, it allows for changes to spaces that may not be detected in the same way on the plan.
