Antique Burmese Cast Brass Courtly Dancer Figurine, Signed Maung Yai

About the Item

An exceptionally well-cast figure of an elegant male Burmese court dancer in traditional dress. The figure is mounted on its original wooden stand. It stands balanced on one foot and with both arms in elegant motion. The base is stamped Mandalay and with the name ‘MG YAI’ (‘Mg’ usually is short for ‘Maung’). Brass and bronze castings such as this was among the ‘cottage crafts’ promoted in Burma by the colonial British.
