About the Item
Reduction in patinated bronze with the high-relief decoration of the Monument to Dante, with glass top to form a pedestal table
The Monument to Dante, sculpture dedicated to Dante Alighieri is today located in Trento and was created by the Italian artist Cesare Zocchi (1851-1922) and is considered the symbol of the Italian language (especially in a region then integrated into the Austro-Hungarian Empire)
This project was completed in 5 years 1891-1896
There are several levels to our pedestal: the Paradise with figures representing Beatrice and a frieze of angels, then below is the level of Purgatory: Sordel meets Virgil and Dante, the representation of Pride and the fishermen in Hell
The original monument is topped by a statue in foot of Dante, carrying the Divine Comedy against his chest
