Early 20th Century Indonesian Carved Wooden Seated Gentleman

About the Item

Presenting a glorious early 20th century Indonesian carved wooden seated gentleman. This is Beautiful bit of ‘treen’ carved most likely in Indonesia or Cambodia or Bali circa 1920. Carved from one solid block of native hardwood it depicts a seated gentleman in traditional Indonesian attire, with his legs crossed and hands folded almost prayerlike. Lovely piece of SE Asian Folk Art. In pretty good condition for it’s age withy some minor cracking as one would expect with age and only 1 repair to the dome of his head. A couple of the photos show him before he was cleaned and the natural ageing is obvious. Purchased in Bali or Indonesia by a Dallas Private Collector in the 1970’s. Indonesia (/??nd?'ni???/ (listen) IN-d?-NEE-zh?), officially the Republic of Indonesia (Indonesian: Republik Indonesia [re'publik ?ndo'nesia] (listen)),[a] is a country in Southeast Asia and Oceania, between the Indian and Pacific oceans. It consists of more than seventeen thousand islands, including Sumatra, Java, Borneo (Kalimantan), Sulawesi, and New Guinea (Papua). Indonesia is the world’s largest island country and the 14th-largest country by land area, at 1,904,569 square kilometres (735,358 square miles). With over 267 million people, it is the world’s 4th-most-populous country as well as the most-populous Muslim-majority country. Java, the world’s most-populous island, is home to more than half of the country’s population. Provenance: From a Dallas Private Collection. Condition: Good for it’s age with some cracking and a repair to the dome of the man’s head.
