Italian Grand Tour Bronze Cast of Faun of Pompeii

About the Item

This work, cast in the last quarter of the 19th century, is a type of souvenir called GRAND TOUR, the great trip that many Europeans made as the last educational trip that brought the person closer to adult life and the cultural knowledge that a person should have. cultured. This statue is one of the most popular objects of the GRAND TOUR, reproduced by the best foundries in Naples in numerous sizes and finishes. The original statue was discovered in Pompeii in one of the most famous houses of the archaeological site, an important and magnificent house, very well preserved, in whose courtyard the original faun was found and which gives the house its name, La casa del Fauno. This reproduction is from the end of the 19th century. The finish is not old verdi but what was once a deep brown, which now gives it a beautiful patina, it is a good size and very decorative.
