Italian Grand Tour Bronze Censer with Birds
About the Item
A very fine antique Italian attributed grand tour bronze lidded censer applied with birds dating from around 1860. The censer stands raised on a square base supported on four flat round corner feet. The central column support sits on a round based with decorative edging and is adorned to either side with standing swans with their wings spread. The column supports a shallow round bowl shaped top with decorative edging and small air holes applied to the base. The bowl contains a small raised central platform for a pastille. The censer has a fitted slightly domed cover with pierced leaf style designs repeated around the lid and with a dolphin finial. The censer has a wonderful aged patina and is not marked.
Provenance: Acquired from the British Art Market.
The censer is in good condition with a slight unevenness to the cover edge.
