Late 19th Century Pair of Military Bronze Soldiers by Etienne Henri Dumaige

About the Item

Late 19th century pair of bronze French soldiers by Etienne Henri Dumaige. Representing two separate moments in the French Revolution, the uprising against Louis XV, and the fall of the monarchy in 1792. One of the soldiers is an infantryman smoking a pipe, relaxing on his musket after the battle. The other is a drummer holding his drum and sticks ready for battle. Both are signed by the artist Dumaige, a Parisian born (1830-1888) who showed at the Paris Salon between 1862 and 1877, and worked in plaster, marble and bronze. His works are exhibited in the Rouen and also the Tours Museum in France. Inscribed on the drummer is " Avant le combat 1792 " meaning ready for combat or battle and the infantryman " Apres le combat 1792 " meaning after the combat or battle. Both great pieces of history in good condition shown in the photos and video.
