Pair Of Vintage "Inseparable Couple" Sculptures (Loro Blonyo), Java, Indonesia

About the Item

A mid 20th Century pair of hand carved and hand painted wedding figures from Java, Indonesia. These are known as Loro Blonyo, the "inseparable couple." They were placed in the living area of a home as protection figures and to embody the wisdom of one's ancestors. This pair is carved in the classical style, seated in a kneeling position with arms and hands extended forward. and featuring very narrow waists in each figure. These striking and unusual carvings have a beautiful and comforting presence, conveying the message of a close marriage and connection to past generations.
