Blue and White Double Phoenix Baluster Jar

About the Item

This contemporary lidded baluster jar continues the centuries-old tradition of Chinese blue-and-white porcelain ware. Painted with cobalt pigments for a brilliant blue finish, the jar is densely patterned with trailing vine scrollwork. At the center is a cartouche painting with a bird-and-flower design of phoenixes amid peonies. As a flower associated with the springtime, the peony accompanied by the phoenix may be interpreted as an auspicious symbol for marriage and fertility. The jar's lid is capped with a guardian fu dog, a symbol of power and strength of character. Additional Dimensions: Without Lid: 15"H
