Art Nouveau Bohemian 'Helmet' Cameo Glass Vase by Riedel

About the Item

Stunning Riedel cameo and gilded, green on clear - 'Helmet' vase. The main body is decorated with green leaves and branches highlighted by gilding. It has a very fine white profile face of a lady in a gold cartouche. It's in the Riedel book and dated 1897 (the one shown there is from the great Passau Glass Museum) and it says the white face is enamelled but you would be forgiven for thinking it too is cameo. Riedel Pattern book no 855/317 form 236/97. Riedel was one of the greatest glass houses in Bohemian they were prized for their amazing colours - which were purchased by most of the glass houses in Europe for most of the 20th century and they were also the centre for the Czech glass bead industry Decedent's of the owners of Riedel now make fine stemware in Austria under the same family name.
