Blue vase and silver leaf
About the Item
This vase was made by Sergio Costantini a Murano master. It is a blue reminiscent of the ocean the most beautiful depths of an ocean.Two techniques are used.The first of silver leaf on glass, used by artists and craftsmen mainly during the Renaissance, is still done in the same way today. This process has remained unchanged for centuries: silver foils are used and applied by hand over a thin layer of glue. The processing method is rigorous and involves the 'use of brushes with marten hair, the only ones that, thanks to their gentleness, they are able to spread the material without ruining it. Currently the best method for applying silver leaf to glass is by mission, a specific adhesive for nonporous materials. The second technique is that of pulegose glass which is filled with bubbles obtained by introducing into the molten mass a substance suitable for producing the development of gas bubbles.The technique was developed in 1920 by Napoleone Martinuzzi at Venini.
