Émile Gallé Émile Gallé ( Nancy , 4 May 1846 - there, 23 September 1904 ) was a French glass maker and furniture designer who had his home base in his birthplace. His favorite motif, which he often used in his work, was the plant. There were also many insect motifs. The glass is decorated single or multi-colored with elegant natural motifs. Gallé used different techniques: • colorless crystal glass with enamel painting; • verrerie parlante, glasses with opaque painted decorations that symbolize a mood inspired by poetry ; • opaque , semi-transparent glass with opaque painted decorations; • marquetry de verre, glass-in-glass marquetry; • superimposed glass with an image applied by an etching process between two layers ; imposed glass in a coarser edition, made with templates.
