Flemish Studio Pottery Art Nouveau Drip Glazed Earthenware Vase 1900s Folk Art

About the Item

This tall and very stylish conical Art Nouveau vase is a beautiful example of Flemish pottery or ‘Poterie Flamande’ from Torhout dating from the 1900s. The vase is a rainbow of colours created by a drip glaze of brown, blue, yellow and orange. It has then been decorated with an art nouveau style motif - a stylized applique fleur-de-lys - that has been incised to create an interesting textured pattern in the vibrant orange and blue glaze. The vase has a lovely crackle glaze finish throughout. There are no chips, however there is a faint hairline crack to the bottom of the vase, which appears to have happened in the firing process as it runs to one of the spur marks underneath. (Spur marks are depressions created when a piece of pottery is sat on kiln supports when fired - see last image). 43.5cm H x 15cm diameter – 12.5cm top 3kg
