C20th Pair Keller & Guerin French Pottery Candlesticks Lunéville Saint Clement
About the Item
An outrageous pair of highly decorative French ceramic glazed pottery candlesticks by Keller & Guérin - the bases in the form of a sea dragon pursuing a bird. Japanese style signature Keller Et Guerin monogrammed to both bases.
The Lunéville factory at Saint-Clément was founded in 1730 and dedicated their production to artistic works, tableware, luxurious and decorative objects, collaborating with big names such as Auguste Majorelle and Emile Gallé.
In the second half of the 19th century the factory reproduced Louis XIV objects, among them objects with very unnatural forms, where they attempted to imitate the multicoloured decorations of Strasbourg faience.
In 1892 the factory was sold to Keller and Guérin. After 1920 their production consisted of dinnerware of fine earthenware and decorative objects (animals) in craquelé earthenware.
