Minton Aesthetic Movement Plum Red Glazed Art Pottery Monkey Candlestick
About the Item
A stylish and unusual Minton Aesthetic Movement plum glazed art pottery monkey candlestick dating from around 1885. The candlestick stands on a rounded leaf shaped base with a crimped rim with a central column made up of a family of three monkeys, the larger father at the base with the mother sat on his shoulder and child on her shoulder supporting the candle holder. Molded with bamboo leaves the candlestick is well detailed and decorated in plum red glazes with the raised elements providing a white outline from the clay. The candlestick has an impressed MINTONS mark along with an indistinct registration date number to the base and is also numbered 2932.
In good presentable condition with some glaze chipping around the base and general age crazing common to such pieces.
