Linthorpe Aestehtic Movement Floral Painted Art Pottery Plate

About the Item

A very fine Aesthetic Movement floral painted side or dessert pottery plate by Linthorpe and dating from around 1885. Linthorpe Pottery was founded in 1879 and existed in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough until 1890. The pottery was founded by Christopher Dresser in association with businessman John Harrison. It produced arty pottery with many of the earlier designs in collaboration with Dresser. This fine plate is made in a red terracotta colored clay the small round plate has a raised crimped rim the front finely hand painted with white flowering green stems set against a mottled brown ground with tones of yellow. The finely painted flowers have a slight luminosity against the brown ground. The plate has an impressed LINTHORPE mark to the base along with impressed number 1700. The plate is also marked FM 564. In good condition with fine age crazing to the thick glazes.
