French Copper and Brass Urn or Vase with Original Platter Marked Villedieu

About the Item

This turn of the twentieth century copper and brass urn or vase comes with its original platter. The vase is detailed with repousse leaf and scrolling patterns alternating with incising and scalloped edging. A scrolling leaf handle appoints each side. The vase measures 14.5 inches high by 8 inches in diameter. It measures 14 inches wide with the handles. The vase rests on a copper platter additionally detailed with the leaf and scrolling motif. The platter measures 1 inch high by 10.5 inch diameter. Both vase and platter are stamped on the bottom Villedieu, short for Villedieu-les-Poeles, the town in Normandy considered the copper capital of France. c. 1900.
