Giovanni Bertoncello Italian Screziato Tobacco Art Pottery Vase

About the Item

A large and impressive mid-century Italian modernist art pottery vase formed in a retro ‘C’ shape and decorated in 'Scretziato Tobacco' glazes by Giovanni Bertoncello and made in the 1960's. The large hollow made sculptural form vase stands raised on two small wide unglazed feet and is of wide oval shape forming a C with a gap between the two narrowing elements of the body. The wide element forms the vase with a simple oval opening to the top flattened edge. The vase is decorated with mottled brown glazes which appear to have been sprayed or splashed onto a lighter glazed ground. The vase has a painted 87 mark to the base but no apparent makers marks. A very large and impressive display piece. Provenance: acquired from the British Art market. In good condition.
