James Plant Pair Art Nouveau Silver Mounted Turquoise Streak Glazed Vases
About the Item
An unusual pair Art Deco silver mounted art nouveau vases decorated in turquoise streaked glazes by James Plant & Sons and dating from the early 20th century. The bulbous shaped earthenware vases stand on a narrow rounded base with a raised rounded opening applied with a thin fitted silver mount. The body of the vases are decorated in very think turquoise and blue streaked glazes which have flowed down and gathered on the base. The vases have indistinct numerical marks to the base and the silver has rubbed assay marks with maker marks for Charles May and possible date marks for 1909.
Wear and lifting to the silver rims and age wear and light scratching to the bodies of the vase with some firing chips to the base, probably where dripped glaze was removed.
