Rare Antique French Art Pottery by Jean Pointu Blue Vase Pot
About the Item
A piriform or pear-shaped stoneware vase of Japonist inspiration. Covered with a flowing glaze in tranches of pale blue and brown and ochre by the French art ceramist Jean Pointu (1843-1925) of the important ‘Ecole de Carries’ group at Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, and father of famed ceramicist Leon Pointu. Signed with incised ‘Jean.U’ one of his customary markings, in which his surname is cleverly written as a dot (point in French) followed by the letter U. This is a nice example of one of his instinctive shapes, and often seen in books.
In perfect original condition with no restoration.
Please note that the flash photography may make the colors slightly brighter than they are in real life.
