Sterling Silver Vase by Robert Hennell IV, Antique Victorian
About the Item
This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver vase has a plain circular baluster form.
The body of this antique silver vase is encompassed with four exceptional and large engraved stylised floral motifs.
The motifs are flanked with an impressive bright cut engraved volute scroll border and fret band.
The swept neck of the vase is embellished with further engraved motifs, in addition to pensile drop decorated borders and circular designs.
The rounded upper portion is encompassed with a stylised leaf decorated border to an applied egg decorated border to the upper rim.
This impressive trophy/vase is fitted with an exceptional pair of embossed handles accented with vertical pale decoration to the lower portion.
The piece is supported by a circular swept pedestal foot accented with a further pensile drop decorated border, in addition to a fret band to the circular rounded base.
The rim of the vase bears the retailer's mark 'Dobson & Sons 32 Piccadilly, London'.
This magnificent presentation vase was crafted by the renowned London silversmith Robert Hennell IV.
Condition
This antique sterling silver vase is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.
The engraved decoration is very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body are all very clear; hallmarks are deeply struck and sharp due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

The stand has an octofoil shaped form with a central swept raised circular well. The cylindrical neck of the silver jug is embellished with exceptional cast and applied floral and scrolling foliate decoration, all on a matte background; there is an exceptional shield shaped vacant cartouche to the underside of the pouring lip, surmounted with scrolling leaf mantling. The knopped neck is further ornamented with an interlacing border flanked with plain bands, to a swept portion encircled with pensile bud designs. The decoration to the body incorporates two large scrolling leaf bordered vacant cartouches, each surmounted with a coronet design embellished with floral ornamentation. Each cartouche is further embellished with a chased figural mask design to the nadir, flanked with large floral motifs.
