Antique Arts & Crafts Style German Silver Flagon

About the Item

This exceptional antique German silver flagon has a globular body onto a circular spreading foot. The surface of this German flagon is embellished with exceptional chased decoration depicting figures drinking, conversing and supporting each other in an outdoor tavern setting; this ornamentation was influenced by Flemish/Dutch genre artwork, such as pieces crafted in the late 17th century by David Teniers II. The cylindrical neck of the flagon incorporates further chased tavern decoration with an applied moulded border the upper rim. This impressive silver flagon retains the original subtly domed hinged cover ornamented with an exceptional chased decorated coat of arms style design. The cover is surmounted with a Fine and impressive birurcating thumbpiece embellished with chased decorated strapwork. This silver flagon is fitted with an impressive rounded, opposing scroll handle. The hallmarks to the underside of the flagon includes: Maker's mark: Icon for Bruckmann & So¨hne (Heilbronn, Germany). Silver quality or purity mark: eagle displayed over 13 (13 lo¨thige/loth, .812.5 (812.5/1000). Condition This antique German flagon is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The chased decoration is all very sharp. The German hallmarks struck to the underside of the flagon are all clear in keeping with age. Dimensions Length from back of handle to tip of lip 24.3cm/9.6". Diameter of foot 11.5cm/4.5". Diameter 18.6cm/7.3". Height 32.5cm/12.8". Weight 37.2 troy ounces/1156g. Maker: Bruckmann & So¨hne. Date: circa 1870. Origin: Heilbronn, Germany.     A fine and impressive, large antique cut-glass and Austro-Hungarian silver mounted lemonade/water jug; an addition to our wine and drink related collection. This exceptional antique Austro-Hungarian silver and cut glass water / lemonade silver jug has a tapering cylindrical form. The neck is fitted with a fine and impressive substantial silver hallmarked mount with the original hallmarked flat hinged cover and plain swept lobed thumb piece. The cover is further embellished with the impressive contemporary engraved initials 'SC' below a coronet. This antique cut glass lemonade jug is fitted with a plain angular S scroll handle with bracketed curved terminals. The large glass body of the jug is ornamented with a dimpled effect in addition to a star cut motif to the underside of the base. The hallmarks struck to the surface of the impressive mount include: Importer/Retailer's mark: Bachruch (Antal Bachruch) Assay mark: P (Pest, Hungary) Silver quality/purity mark: Dianakopf mark (.800, 800/1000) Condition The mount of this antique lemonade jug is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition. The glass is in perfect condition. The engraved decoration is all very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mount are all very clear.
