Large Handsome Brut Louise Pommery Champagne Cooler

About the Item

Large handsome bowl-shaped and silver-plated champagne cooler, raised on a base. Made for the well-regarded champagne house Pommery, founded in Reims and whose roots date back to 1858. This particular cooler dates from around the end of the last century, and is made of silver-plated copper. It has remarkable patina alternating between silver and copper at the bottom. There is also a decorative name tag on the side, branded Brut Louise (created after 1979), and especially dedicated to Louise Pommery (1819-90), who became one of France’s greatest business women, widowed in 1860 and who took over the champagne house and ran it on after her husband. Recognised for changing the composition of champagne by producing the first ‘brut’ Champagne ever without added sugar, she was the first woman to receive a French state funeral. 20,000 people gathered in the streets of Reims to honor her great contribution to the city and the champagne industry. A particularly tasteful cooler that exudes elegance and class and can hold 3-4 bottles and ice.
