Antique English Staffordshire Pottery Toby Jug with a Tricorn Hat Lid

A fine antique Staffordshire pottery Toby jug. In the form of a seated, smiling man holding a jug. The man's tricorn hat serves as a lid, and an integral handle runs down his back. Simply a great Toby Jug! Date: 19th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall fair (to good), as-pictured, used estate condition Condition Details: There is a flake to the interior edge of the hat rim and one the underside of the cover. There is fine and tight crazing with some light staining throughout. There are some glaze skips and some edge wear. There are some noticeable losses to the paint decoration (particularly to the hat's rim and handle as well as some firing flaws bleeding through the decoration on the face and hand. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Marks: Unmarked Measurements: Height: ca. 8 1/2 in. Width: ca. 3 1/2 in.
