Antique Lidded Majolica Grotesque Horned Head Vase, 19th Century
About the Item
An antique Majolica lidded vase moulded with a continuous relief moulded scene of putti in various activity with grotesque horned lion heads applied either side of the rim. The earthenware vase stands on a rounded pedestal foot with a rounded raised top with recessed cover with an ornate moulded finial. The vase is hand-painted in tones of blue, green, brown and yellow combined with natural glazed elements and is not marked. Reminiscent of the style of Thomas Shirley the vase also has colors and styles associated with 19th century Palissy. The vase is not marked.
