Ceramic Majolica Decorative Round Fruit Plates, Set of 7, Portugal

About the Item

Set of seven ceramic Majolica fruit plates. This beautiful set features two maroon raspberry plates, two apple plates, two strawberry plates and one lemon plate. Edges are thumbprint or scalloped. Each plate is covered in its respective fruit, with either a green sprig leaf or the fruit featured on the plate. Marked “Made in Portugal” at bottom. Measures: Diameter 8" Height .75" .7 lbs.

    Mid-century ceramic decorative plate by Claude Vayssier for Cerenne Workshop (circa 1950s). This ceramic plate with a fish incised in the centre over the lustrous black background is signed by Claude Vayssier, the decorator. The black base is complemented by a brown and cream pattern with repeating vertical lines incised at the edges. An eye-catching piece from the South of France. In good overall condition. The maker's mark appears on the underside with the signature of Mr. Vayssier. Upon request a video may be provided. About Atelier Cerenne: Created by Charles René Neveux, the Cerenne workshop, active from 1945 - 1958, takes its name from the contraction of its company name "Céramique René Neveux". At the height of its renown, the workshop was one of the most important in Vallauris, employing around fifty people, including 15 decorators.
